Natural does not mean verified
Being natural doesn’t exempt a product from risk. Dietary supplements in the U.S. don’t require pre-market approval from the FDA, which means a product can reach store shelves without any independent verification of what’s actually inside. For most consumers that’s a quality concern. For a competitive athlete, it can be career-ending.
And the responsibility sits with you. Under the anti-doping rules every athlete competes by, a positive test is the athlete’s responsibility regardless of whether the substance came from a contaminated supplement they had no way of knowing about. That is the whole reason third-party certification exists.
What NSF Certified for Sport is
NSF Certified for Sport® is an independent, third-party certification program built to minimize the risk that a dietary supplement contains substances banned in sport. It is run by NSF, a public health organization founded in 1944, and it is the only program of its kind recognized by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the Canadian Football League. It is also recommended by the NFL, the NBA, the PGA and LPGA, Ironman and NASCAR, among others.
What the mark verifies, in practice
- Every production lot is tested against 290 banned substances. Stimulants, narcotics, steroids, diuretics, beta-2-agonists and masking agents drawn from the WADA prohibited list and from the lists of major sports organizations. Not a formula reviewed once, and not a sample of lots: every lot that leaves the facility.
- Label accuracy. NSF verifies that what is printed on the label matches what is in the bottle, in ingredients and in dosage.
- Facility standards. Production takes place in GMP-registered facilities that NSF audits on a recurring basis. The product is not made one way at one site and another way somewhere else.
- Contaminant screening. Testing also covers unsafe levels of contaminants such as heavy metals.
- Ongoing monitoring. Certification is not a one-off. NSF keeps testing to confirm the product continues to meet program requirements.
- Public verification. Sports ProResolve is listed in NSF’s Certified for Sport® database, searchable by product name, and in the Certified for Sport® app.
That last point is the one worth using. Anyone can print a seal on a label. A listing in an independent, public database is a different thing, and it takes ten seconds to check.
Why we do it this way
We could simply say Sports ProResolve is a natural product and leave it at that. But for a professional athlete, “natural” isn’t enough of a guarantee when your career is on the line.
